A Legacy of Leadership

Coach Coleman’s legacy of leadership has been recognized and commemorated in numerous ways, from the business and life successes of many of his former players to his Hall of Fame recognition to the unveiling of his bronze likeness in the Don Coleman Coliseum in 2019. His legacy also includes The Don Coleman Scholarship.

Awarded to 47 young leaders from 1993-2015, The Don Coleman Scholarship was the most prestigious award in SBISD high school basketball, and it didn’t necessarily go to the best player. The award was established upon Coach Coleman’s retirement by former players and friends that wanted to honor the one boy and one girl basketball player from the Spring Branch Independent School District who showed the discipline, dedication, selflessness and work ethic Coach Coleman demanded from his players. Memorial, Northbrook, Spring Woods and Stratford High Schools all boast boy and girl success stories who were awarded the scholarship.
