A Passion for Life
Coach Coleman’s story goes far beyond the hardwoods of Texas high school gymnasiums. His passion for helping others and serving his Lord and Savior were the ultimate scoreboard for which Coach liked to be measured. Nothing meant more to Coach than a former player, student, or friend coming to him years after the fact and noting the difference he had made in their lives, and he always gave the glory to God.
He was a man of great faith and family and dedicated much of his time to various Men’s Ministries. In his later coaching years, he could be seen cheering on his grandkids at their sporting and community endeavors. His love for his wife, Mary Kay, was well known by their many friends throughout the Greater Houston community.
Coach was also heavily invested in the profession of coaching. He spent countless hours in a united quest to grow the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and would invite young coaches into his office and home to mentor coaching strategies and talk about the future of the sport. He would share his philosophies with tomorrow’s leaders in hopes that he would leave the sport better off than it was when he entered.
